Judith received treatment with Powerback after a prolonged hospitalization due to respiratory failure and pneumonia. After many traditional swallow evaluations during her hospitalization, Judy was given orders to avoid eating and drinking all foods and liquids; a feeding tube was placed to enable Judith to receive her nutrition and medication.
Upon arrival at her care center, Judith began comprehensive swallowing therapy. Her most important goal in treatment was to be able to drink coffee again. She performed daily swallowing exercises, as clinically recommended by her Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), and began to show significant improvement. Due to the noted progress, a Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) was completed to ensure that Judith was swallowing safely. After completing the FEES, it was clear that her swallow had significantly improved due to her hard work in therapy, and she could be placed on a soft solid, thin liquids diet. Judith was delighted to learn she could now have a cup of coffee again!
